Show Trophies & Awards

NJOS awards trophies to plants and exhibits at the NJOS annual Orchid Show. The trophies are monetary and awarded based on the  AOS/Show Judges’ decision. The amount of award varies and is at the discretion of the NJOS Board. Many trophies are named for past members of NJOS.

With the exception of the endowed Leslie Stern Memorial Award, named awards are sponsored by members of the North Jersey Orchid Society in honor of former members and friends.

AOS Show Trophy: awarded to the best exhibit based on the AOS criteria

Orchid Digest Show Trophy: awarded to the Best Society Exhibit based on the Orchid Digest criteria

Show Committee Trophy: awarded to the best orchid in show

Don Richardson Memorial Trophy: awarded to the Best Specimen (other than Best in show)

Leslie Stern Memorial Award: Awarded to the best Phalaenopsis or Doritaenopsis. This is an endowed award.

Roger Hunt Memorial Trophy: awarded for the best Pleorothallid.

John B. Lager Memorial Trophy: awarded for the best Paphiopedilum

Louis Henrich Memorial Trophy: awarded for the best Odontoglossom intergeneric

Joann Petrone Trophy: awarded to the species Cattleya

Margaret DeLage Memorial Trophy: awarded to the best miniature Cattleya

Janet Howe Memorial Trophy: awarded to the best Dendrobium

Ed Howel Memorial Trophy: awarded for the best Cymbidium

Donald R. Carely Memorial Trophy: awarded for the best standard Cattleya

Oncidium Alliance Trophy: awarded for the best Oncidium alliance orchid.

Vandaceous Alliance Trophy: awarded for the best Vanda alliance orchid

Best Species Trophy: award to any genera orchid other than Best in Show or Best Specimen

Joe Heydel Fragrance Award: Awarded to the orchid considered to be the most fragrant. Sponsored by the Jersey Highlands Orchid Society.

Irene Schwarz Memorial Trophy: awarded for the best Phragmipedium, Mexipedium, or Cypripedium.
